Referral partner outreach on LinkedIn: how a network recruited advisors as peers
Referral partners already serve your ideal customers, so the first message has to read as a peer asking a question, not a vendor pitching. A referral network used Sellinger on 26 LinkedIn profiles this way: 9,808 professionals were messaged, 44.8% replied and 95 calls were booked and corroborated.

How Sellinger runs it in four steps
- "Build relationships with referral partners who already serve your ideal customers, and book a call to explore sending business both ways."
- "Gauge openness to a referral, co-selling, or white-label arrangement, and secure a brief ten-minute conversation to agree next steps."
- "Open vendor onboarding conversations with the people who control procurement. The goal is becoming an approved vendor, not an immediate sale."

Step 1
Find the partners
LinkedIn searches on role and country, imported lists, or people who engage with a founder's posts.
- 2
Step 2
Open as a peer
A compliment on their work, or one question about their clients. No pitch and no link.
- 3
Step 3
Turn a pleasantry into a question
Of 1,751 thanks for connecting replies, the agent turned 1,035 into real conversations by asking how the prospect handles their own clients.
- 4
Step 4
Ask for 15 minutes
"Tuesday or Wednesday?" plus a link, then a short nudge if they go quiet.
The result, with its bases
| Program | Messaged | Replied | Booked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advisor recruitment | 2,730 | 49.6% | 2.47% |
| Firm sales | 4,312 | 43.8% | 2.29% |
| Profiles for single member firms | 1,228 | 27.4% | 0.93% |
Replies counted for the agent first threads. 33.7% of the 9,264 the agent wrote to first replied with more than a pleasantry. Read the wealth management industry page and the case study for definitions.
Reciprocity helped: in 40 booking threads the prospect used collaboration language of their own, such as a reciprocal introduction, and the agent accepted the frame and moved to a call. The most common objection was timing, about 273 threads, and the agent's habit of coming back when it said it would produced 31 bookings.
Limits
- From the fourth message on, 16% of replies were negative.
- Advisors employed by banks often could not accept referral arrangements.
- A person must host the booked call. About 14 prospects found nobody there.
