Goal templates for fundraising and investor outreach
Sellinger's goal picker has 2 Fundraising goals. Both aim at a short intro call, and both hold back the deck until the investor shows interest. This page shows the exact text and how to use it.

What this category is for
Investor outreach fails when it reads like a mass mailing, so both catalog goals push the agent toward a specific reason for contact. The first checks openness before sharing anything. The second sets a weekly count of conversations and asks the agent to open with why this investor fits this round. They suit a founder who already has a list of investors worth writing to and a clear description of the round.
The 2 catalog goals, exact text
Gauge whether the investor is open to reviewing the deck or taking a brief ten-minute intro call about the round. Share materials only after interest is expressed.
Book intro calls with investors whose thesis matches the company, target 3 quality conversations per week, and open with the specific reason they fit this round.
What each goal does
| Goal | What it achieves | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Investor openness | Holds back the deck until the investor shows interest, which avoids unsolicited attachments. | The ten minute call and the deck are two asks. Keep one if your round is early. |
| Thesis match calls | Makes the opening about the investor's own thesis, not your pitch. | It needs a researched reason per investor. Without research the reason is guessed. |
When to use these goals, and when not to
Use them when
- You have a defined round: stage, size, sector and a short summary.
- Your investor list is filtered by stage, sector and geography, so the thesis match is real.
- You or a co founder will take every call that gets booked.
Do not use them when
- You have no deck or no round description. The agent would invent the reason to contact.
- Your investors are already in warm conversations with you. A cold goal would feel out of place.
- You expect the agent to negotiate terms. It is built to open a conversation and hand over.
