What are hiring signals?

Hiring signals are signs that a company is recruiting, such as new job posts, a hiring manager's announcement or a wave of openings in one team. They suggest a need, a budget and a change underway, which makes the company a better moment to contact than a cold name.

Why do hiring signals matter?

A job post is a public statement of a problem the company wants solved. A company hiring five sales reps may need tooling and training. A company hiring its first security engineer may need a security product. The signal points to the right company and the right moment, not only the right industry.

How do you use one?

Match the signal to the message
Several open sales rolesA team being builtHow others ramp new reps
A new department headPriorities being resetWhat a new head often needs in the first 90 days
A role in your areaA budget for itA direct, relevant offer

What do they miss?

A hiring signal says there is a need, not that your product fits it or that the person you write to decides. Stale posts, duplicate listings and recruiter postings for roles already filled add noise. Check the date and the source before you write.

How Sellinger handles it

Intent signals on LinkedIn with 26 ready made signal templates in 8 categories, included with every bundle. The 26 templates are in 8 categories, and hiring is one of them, next to funding, job changes, conference attendees, brand and competitor engagers, a custom AI signal and lookalikes.

A signal creates leads and sends them to the destination you choose, such as a campaign or a segment. See the intent signals help article and signal based outreach. In Sellinger's own outbound, leads from intent signals earned 4.54% meetings per person messaged against 1.16% for an untagged list in the October 2025 cohort, which is one workspace's data.

Common questions

Are hiring signals the same as intent data?
They are one kind. Intent data covers any behavior that suggests interest, including content engagement and funding. See [intent data](/glossary/intent-data).
Do hiring signals work for every product?
They work best when your product helps the team that is hiring or the person hired.
How fresh should a signal be?
The newer the better. A post from a few days ago is a stronger reason to write than one from three months ago.
