Signal based selling: write to people who just engaged with the problem you solve
Signal based outreach starts from something a person did, such as commenting on a competitor's post, announcing a hire or asking for a recommendation, and not from a static list. Sellinger ships 26 signal templates in 8 categories on LinkedIn. In our own October 2025 data, intent signal lists replied at 54.6% and booked four times as many meetings per person as untagged lists.

Who has this job
Teams who sell into a market where the buyer rarely announces a need, and where a title list means writing to thousands of people who are not thinking about it. A signal narrows the list to people who just showed interest. The intent signals product page lists the features, and this page is about using them.

| Company Activity | 5 | Funding announcements, hiring posts, job listings, new joiners and new offices |
| Sales Opportunities | 5 | People looking for an agency, asking for recommendations, endorsing a tool, expressing frustration, or offering a lead magnet |
| Conferences | 1 | People mentioning or attending a named conference |

How Sellinger runs it in four steps
- 1
Step 1
Pick a signal
Choose a template, paste a profile or write a boolean query, and set how fresh a signal must be, from 7 to 90 days.
- 2
Step 2
Qualify with AI (optional)
An AI qualification prompt checks each post against your own description of what to include and exclude.
- 3
Step 3
Create leads
A delivery worker runs every 15 minutes, applies the freshness filter, runs the qualification and creates leads, which can go to a segment.
- 4
Step 4
Write one observation
The campaign opens with an observation about their work. In our data, observation openers out replied questions by 10 to 15 points.
Our own data, and what it does not show
| List | Replied | Meetings per person messaged |
|---|---|---|
| Intent signal | 54.6% | 4.54% |
| Untagged list | 37.2% | 1.16% |
| Sales Navigator search | 21.7% | 0.71% |

- The source of the signal matters: audiences of AI SDR vendors and automation creators booked 2.6% to 3.7% per person, enterprise sales voices under 0.4%.
- A customer foundry saw intent lists reply at 58.2%, but 57% of those replies came from recruiters, vendors and peers, and named company searches produced more buyers. Check who replies, not just how many.
- A solo founder booked 16 of 19 calls from intent lists, and 1 in 225 conversations from title searches.
What this page does not claim
Only the signal types listed above are described here. Signals cover LinkedIn activity, and they can be wrong about intent: a like is a hint, not a purchase plan.
