Template: replying when a prospect asks about price

When a prospect asks about price, answer the question or say who will. A vague reply loses trust. Below are three replies: one when the price is public, one when it depends and one when a person should answer. Sellinger has a built in rule that flags pricing questions for a human. These texts are not measured yet.

The text

Placeholders in square brackets are yours to fill. The wording is ours, not a quote from a customer.
The price is public
Good question. [Plan] starts at [price] per [unit], and [what is included]. The full list is here: [link]. Does that fit what you had in mind?
The price depends
It depends mainly on [one or two factors]. For a company like yours, [rough range or example, only if it is true]. If you tell me [the one fact you need], I can give you a clearer number.
A person should answer
That is a question for [name], who handles pricing. I have passed your message to them and they will reply [by when]. In the meantime, is there anything about [product] I can answer?

Why each line is there

Line by line
The number or the range, firstHotel Pirin's "quote, don't stall" rule: answering guests with a full quote quickly is the pattern its owner kept.
"Only if it is true"An agent must not invent a price. If the number is not in its instructions, it should hand over.
A named person and a timeA hand over only helps if the prospect knows who will answer and when.
A closing questionIt keeps the conversation moving instead of ending on the price.

What it measured

No data yet. Sellinger has not measured results for this exact text, so this page makes no claim about replies, meetings or revenue. Measured campaigns are in the case studies.

The related case study is Hotel Pirin. Related party: it is owned by a co-founder of Sellinger. See also the blog post quote, don't stall.

When not to use it

  • When the price is not set in the agent's instructions or knowledge base. Use the third reply and let a person answer.
  • When the question is a formal proposal or contract. Those go to a person.

Send yourself a test reply that matches the rule and check that the conversation is flagged for a person.

Common questions

Should the agent ever quote a price?
Only a price it has been given, in the persona, the knowledge base or the goal. If it has none, it should stop and hand over.
What does the pricing rule do?
It marks the conversation as needing attention and the agent stops, so a person answers.
Can I put prices in the knowledge base?
Yes. Add a document or text with the price list and the agent can answer from it.
