Duplicate leads: how to merge them and how to prevent them

Open Merge Suggestions in the app. Sellinger lists pairs of leads it thinks are the same person, with the reason and a confidence score. Pick the primary lead, click Merge to fold the other into it, or click Dismiss if they are different people.

Before you start

You need leads in your team. Suggestions are found within one team.
Decide which record is the better one to keep. Its details win where both have a value.

Steps

Open the page
Click Merge Suggestions in the sidebar. The subtitle shows how many duplicates are waiting. If there are none it says there are no pending merge suggestions.

Read the match
Each row shows both names, the reason (an email match, a phone match or a name similarity) and a confidence percentage.

Compare the two
Expand the row to see name, email, phone, company, title, status, channel and created date for both leads.

Choose the primary lead
Under Select the primary lead (data will be merged into it), pick the one to keep. It is marked Primary.

Merge or dismiss
Click Merge to combine them, or Dismiss if they are not the same person.

What happens next

A merge brings the conversation history, profile data, tags and segments together on the primary lead. The other lead is marked irrelevant and points to the primary. Dismiss only closes the suggestion.

Good to know

Matches by exact email score 98%, by exact phone 95%. A name match scores lower and is raised if the company is also similar.
Prevent duplicates at the door: CSV imports skip rows that are already in your team. See why a CSV import skips rows.
Nothing is deleted. The merged lead stays in the system as irrelevant, with a link to the primary.

Common questions

Can I undo a merge?

The page offers no undo button. Choose the primary lead with care.

Does merging stop duplicate messages?

It puts both conversations on one lead, so the agent works from one history.

Are duplicates found across teams?

No. Detection runs per team.
