What is lead segmentation?
Lead segmentation is splitting your leads into groups that share something, such as industry, role, company size, region or behavior, so each group can get a message that fits. It replaces one message for everyone with several that each speak to a smaller audience.

How can you segment?
| By | Example |
|---|---|
| Role | Founders, heads of sales, operations managers |
| Industry | Hotels, software, logistics |
| Size | 1 to 10 people, 11 to 50 |
| Source | Intent signal, CSV, database search |
| Behavior | Replied, accepted, booked |
Why does it matter?
The source can change results sharply. In Sellinger's own outbound, leads from intent signals drew 54.6% replies against 37.2% for an untagged list and 21.7% for Sales Navigator search, in the case study's data. That is one workspace, not a benchmark, but it shows that where a lead came from is worth tracking.
What goes wrong?
- Too many segments with too few leads to learn from.
- Segments defined by data you do not have.
- A segment nobody writes a message for.
How Sellinger handles it
Segments are groups of leads. You can set a channel order for a segment, auto assign leads to it and send a one off broadcast. Personas can be assigned to segments, so each segment can get its own voice, and goals can be scoped to a segment. Routing rules can send leads to a channel or persona by tags, stage or score.
Common questions
How many segments should I have?
Is segmentation the same as targeting?
Can I use different messages per segment?
