What are firmographics?
Firmographics are descriptive facts about a company: industry, number of employees, revenue band, location, age, ownership and structure. They are to B2B what demographics are to consumer marketing. Teams use them to define an ideal customer profile, segment markets and build target account lists.

Which firmographics are most used?
| Field | Example | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Industry | Logistics, software, manufacturing | Message and proof |
| Employee count | 50 to 500 | Fit and deal size |
| Location | Country, region, city | Language, law and time zone |
| Revenue band | 10 to 50 million | Budget and deal size |
| Growth | Headcount change over a year | Timing |
| Ownership | Private, public, family owned, backed by investors | How decisions are made |
What are the limits?
Firmographics describe who a company is, not whether it needs you now. Two companies with identical firmographics can be in very different situations. They are a filter for fit; signals and conversations tell you about timing. Data also goes stale, so check important fields before relying on them; see data decay.
How do firmographics relate to technographics?
Technographics describe the technology a company uses. Together with firmographics they describe fit: a logistics company of 200 people that runs a particular system may be a much better prospect than one that does not.
