Template: messaging someone who engaged with a post

People who like or comment on a post about a problem are telling you it is on their mind. A message to them should say honestly what you saw, connect it to their work and ask one question. Below are three versions for a like, a comment and an engagement with someone else's post.

The text

Placeholders in square brackets are yours to fill. The wording is ours, not a quote from a customer.
Version 1: they liked your post
Hi [first name], thanks for the like on my post about [topic]. Is [the problem in the post] something you deal with at [Company], or more of a general interest?
Version 2: they commented
Hi [first name], your comment on [topic] made a good point about [their point]. How does [Company] handle that today?
Version 3: they engaged with someone else's post
Hi [first name], I saw you joined the discussion on [author]'s post about [topic]. Do you see the same thing at [Company]?

What it measured

Not these exact words. In Sellinger's own outbound, most prospects came from people who had liked or commented on posts about the topic, and in October 2025 those intent signal lists replied at 55% and booked four times as often as untagged lists. In the ShortVibe study, 16 of 19 bookings came from people engaging with relevant creators' and competitors' posts.

When not to use it

  • When the engager is a peer, a vendor or a job seeker. Check the profile first.
  • When the post was about something unrelated to what you sell.
  • When you would pretend to know them.

How to use it in Sellinger

Leave it to the agent, which writes each message from the lead's own data and your persona, or paste this text into a step in Flow-Maker in the campaign's configuration drawer. The step's instruction box personalises a pasted message with the lead's data, so read the first sends before you widen the campaign. Sellinger has intent signals on LinkedIn with 26 ready made signal templates in 8 categories, included with every bundle, including engagers and commenters on posts you choose.

Common questions

Is it creepy to message people who liked a post?
Not if you say plainly what you saw and ask a relevant question. Pretending it is a coincidence is what feels odd.
Who should I message: likers or commenters?
Commenters usually have more to say. Likers are a larger list; check fit for both.
Can Sellinger build these lists?
Yes, with the engagers and commenters intent signal templates on LinkedIn.
