AI sales agent for ecommerce and Shopify brands: answering shoppers and opening stockists

An ecommerce brand has two sales jobs an agent can help with. The first is answering shoppers who write on the site, on Instagram or on WhatsApp, quickly and with the information they asked for. The second is business to business: opening wholesale and stockist accounts by email. Sellinger covers both, and keeps refunds, complaints and custom deals with a person.

Why outbound in ecommerce brands is different

Most ecommerce selling is inbound. Shoppers ask about sizes, delivery, stock and returns, and an unanswered question at the wrong moment is a lost order. Speed and accuracy matter more than persuasion.

Outbound in ecommerce is mostly business to business: shops, concept stores and distributors who could stock the brand. That is classic B2B outreach to buyers, with samples and line sheets, and it follows the email rules for companies.

What an AI SDR does for ecommerce brands

  • Answers shoppers on live chat with the widget installed on your Shopify store, from the knowledge base you write.
  • Answers Instagram direct messages, comments and story mentions.
  • Answers WhatsApp messages from shoppers who write first.
  • Writes to independent shop buyers by email with one question about their range, and follows up.
  • Hands refunds, complaints, order problems and custom deals to a person with the conversation attached.

An example sequence for ecommerce brands

This is an example to adapt, not a campaign that ran. Change the timing, the angle and the words to fit your offer and your buyers.
  1. 1

    Day 0

    Email to a shop buyer

One question about whether they carry a brand like yours in a category.

  2. 2

    Day 3

    Instagram touch

Engage with the shop's account where they are active, without a pitch.

  3. 3

    Day 8

Follow up with a line sheet offer

Offer the line sheet and a sample, and ask about their next buying season.

  4. 4

    Day 18

    Last note

A short note with an easy way to say not this season.

  5. 5

    Any reply

    Hand to the wholesale lead

Terms, minimums and samples are handled by a person.

Hi Clara,

Do you stock any independent [category] brands at [Shop] at the moment, or mostly the bigger names?

We make [product] in [place] and work with a few independent shops in [region]. If it fits your next season, I can send our line sheet.

Channels that fit ecommerce brands

Channels for ecommerce brands
Live chatShoppers on your Shopify storeAnswers come from your knowledge base; keep it current on delivery and returns
InstagramShoppers and shops who message or commentInstagram: the agent answers direct messages, comments and story mentions and works the inbox. It can also send first messages to leads you import, under a daily outbound limit set per account (code default 30 a day). No team currently pays for Instagram outbound, so no performance claim is made.
WhatsAppShoppers who write firstSellinger sends first messages and follow ups on WhatsApp through your connected WhatsApp account. WhatsApp itself limits outbound messaging, so first messages run at a small daily volume. It also answers people who write first.

The closest published evidence

Sellinger has no published ecommerce campaign. The nearest example of fast inbound answers is the Hotel Pirin reservations agent, a related party, which answered guests in a median of 41 seconds over 54 inquiries. After a rule to quote as soon as it had the details, the share of replies carrying a price went from 50% to 92%.

For the live chat setup, see install the live chat widget on Shopify and the live chat lead capture use case.

Rules to check before you start

Consumer protection rules apply to what the agent says about prices, delivery and returns, so it should answer only from your published policies. Wholesale emails to shops follow B2B email rules, which treat sole traders differently in some countries. This is not legal advice.

Automatic replies from helpdesks, no reply senders, satisfaction surveys and empty messages are marked as machine mail. They never count as a human reply, the agent does not answer them, and the lead is sent to a person with a named reason.

How to start with Sellinger

  • Start with inbound: install the live chat widget and write the knowledge base from your real delivery and returns policies.
  • Connect Instagram so DMs and comments are answered.
  • Run wholesale outreach as a separate email campaign with its own persona.
  • 30 days free on messaging modules and bundles, no card. Usage modules (enrichment) start with a $10 credit.
