AI SDR for food and beverage suppliers: reaching buyers, chefs and stockists

A food or drink producer grows by getting onto menus and shelves, one buyer at a time. An AI SDR can find the buyers, chefs and category managers who fit your product, ask one question about their range, follow up around their menu or range review dates, and hand every sample request and price question to the sales team.

Why outbound in food and beverage suppliers is different

Buyers in food and drink taste before they buy. The goal of outreach is almost always a sample or a tasting, not an order, and a sample needs a person to pack it and follow it up. Measure the campaign on samples requested and tastings held.

Timing follows the calendar of the buyer: seasonal menu changes in restaurants, range reviews in retail, annual tenders in catering. A good product pitched a week after the review missed its chance for months.

What an AI SDR does for food and beverage suppliers

  • Builds lists of chefs, owners, buyers and category managers in the channel you sell to.
  • Asks one question about their range, such as whether they carry a local option in a category.
  • Follows up with a reason that fits the buyer, such as a seasonal menu change or an award your product has really won.
  • Collects the delivery address and contact for samples, then hands the request to the team.
  • Answers trade enquiries on live chat or WhatsApp when buyers write first.

An example sequence for food and beverage suppliers

This is an example to adapt, not a campaign that ran. Change the timing, the angle and the words to fit your offer and your buyers.
  1. 1

    Day 0

Email to the named buyer or chef

One question about their range in your category. No price list.

  2. 2

    Day 4

    Instagram or LinkedIn touch

For restaurants, answer and engage on Instagram where they are active; for retail buyers, a LinkedIn request with no note.

  3. 3

    Day 9

Follow up with a sample offer

Offer a sample for the next menu or range review, with no obligation.

  4. 4

    Before review dates

    Seasonal note

A short message timed to their menu change or range review.

  5. 5

    Any reply

    Hand to sales

Samples, prices and listing terms are handled by a person.

Example first message (illustrative)
Subject: a local [product] for your menu

Hi Marco,

Do you carry a local [product] at [Restaurant] at the moment, or is it sourced through your main supplier?

We make [product] in [region] and deliver to kitchens in [city] twice a week. If it would help for your next menu change, I can send a sample.

[Name], [Producer]

What stays with a person

  • Prices, trade terms and listing fees.
  • Sending samples and following up on tastings.
  • Any health, nutrition or origin claim beyond what is printed on your approved label.
  • Allergen questions, which need an accurate answer from the team.
  • Distributor agreements and exclusivity.

EmailRetail and distributor buyers, and restaurant ownersCategory managers are busy around reviews; time the main message before
InstagramRestaurants and cafes that run their own accountsInstagram: the agent answers direct messages, comments and story mentions and works the inbox. It can also send first messages to leads you import, under a daily outbound limit set per account (code default 30 a day). No team currently pays for Instagram outbound, so no performance claim is made.
LinkedInBuyers at retailers, caterers and distributorsChefs are rarely active there
WhatsAppTrade customers who already order by messageSellinger sends first messages and follow ups on WhatsApp through your connected WhatsApp account. WhatsApp itself limits outbound messaging, so first messages run at a small daily volume. It also answers people who write first.

The closest published evidence

Sellinger has no published food or drink campaign. In the Green Shield Logistics campaign to producers, chains and pharma companies, a national grocery chain announced an RFQ, and named heads replied at 8.2% against 2.2% for shared inboxes.

The Hotel Pirin reservations agent, a related party, answered guests in a median of 41 seconds. After a rule to quote as soon as it had the details, the share of its replies that carried a price went from 50% to 92%. For a producer, the lesson is to answer trade enquiries quickly with the information the buyer asked for.

Rules to check before you start

Health and nutrition claims on food are regulated in many countries; keep them out of the agent's messages unless they match your approved label. Email law applies to buyer outreach; see is cold email legal. This is not legal advice.

When a contact replies with an opt out such as STOP or unsubscribe, in English, Bulgarian or German among other forms, the contact goes on the team's suppression list, the agent stops and the lead is closed out. A weak or unclear phrase never writes the permanent record: the agent stops and a person decides.

Common questions

Can an AI SDR get a food product into shops or restaurants?
It can start the conversation and arrange a sample request. Tastings, prices and listings stay with your sales team.
Which channel works for restaurants?
Email to the owner or head chef, and Instagram where the restaurant is active. LinkedIn suits retail and distributor buyers.
Can the agent make health claims about the product?
Only claims that match your approved label. Write a rule that stops anything else.
Does Sellinger have a food producer case study?
No. This page is a method guide. The nearest numbers come from Green Shield Logistics and Hotel Pirin, which is a related party.
