Discarding a lead and handling data requests
In the app you discard a lead instead of deleting it. Discard is on the lead's menu and in bulk actions, and it can be reversed. For a person who asks for erasure, an erasure function anonymizes their record and adds them to the suppression list so they are never contacted again.

Before you start
- Decide what the person asked. Stop contact: use an opt out. Remove personal data: use erasure.
- Collect the identifiers: email address, phone number or LinkedIn address.
Steps
- 1
Step 1
Discard one lead
Open the lead's quick actions menu and choose Discard.
- 2
Step 2
Discard many
Select leads and click Discard in the bulk actions bar. A message says how many were discarded.
- 3
Step 3
Find them again
Use the status filter and choose Discarded.
- 4
Step 4
Ask for erasure
For a data erasure request, send the person's email, phone or LinkedIn address through the contact page. The erasure function is not a screen in the app yet.
What happens next
A discarded lead stays in your history with a Discarded status and the agent does not contact it. An erased lead is anonymized.
Good to know
- Erasure replaces the name with [erased], clears email, phone, LinkedIn address, company, title, location, notes, profile data and conversation history, and sets the status to Discarded. The row stays so that counts and billing stay consistent.
- The identifiers go on the suppression list, so the person cannot be imported and contacted again.
- A reply of STOP or unsubscribe is handled automatically. See opt outs and the suppression list.
- Segments can be deleted. Leads are discarded.
