Templates: a WhatsApp opt in request message
Before you send broadcasts or marketing messages on WhatsApp, ask for permission and record the answer. WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy says you may contact people only if they have given you their number and you have their opt in permission to receive later messages. Below are four versions of the request.

Why each line is there
| Line | Why it is there |
|---|---|
| Say who you are | People agree to a business they recognise. The sender name and company come first. |
| Name the type of message | WhatsApp's policy suggests getting opt in for the categories of message you plan to send, so the person knows what to expect. |
| A clear yes | A one word reply creates a record you can keep and show. |
| A clear way out | WhatsApp's policy recommends clear instructions for opting out of categories of messages. A visible STOP also lowers the chance of blocks and reports. |
| Record it | Keep the date, the number and the wording they agreed to. |

What the platform says: the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy says you may contact people on WhatsApp only if they have given you their phone number or username and you have received opt in permission from the recipient confirming that they wish to receive subsequent messages. It says you are solely responsible for determining the method of opt in, and that you must have given the notices and obtained the permissions required under applicable law. Its best practices include getting opt in that covers the categories of messages you will send and giving clear instructions for opting out of specific categories. The policy does not set exact wording. Read 25 October 2026. This is not legal advice.
When not to use it
- When you have no permission and want to ask by message. A first message that asks for opt in is itself a message, so use it only for people who have a relationship with you and gave you their number.
- When the person has already opted out. Do not ask again.
- When a law in your market requires a particular consent form. Take advice.
- When you plan to buy a list of numbers. A purchased number is not an opt in.
How to use it in Sellinger
Sellinger sends first messages and follow ups on WhatsApp through your connected WhatsApp account. WhatsApp itself limits outbound messaging, so first messages run at a small daily volume. It also answers people who write first. Ask for consent in the places where people give you their number, such as a form or a first reply, and keep the record. See WhatsApp broadcast and bulk messaging rules. A STOP reply is handled this way: When a contact replies with an opt out such as STOP or unsubscribe, in English, Bulgarian or German among other forms, the contact goes on the team's suppression list, the agent stops and the lead is closed out. A weak or unclear phrase never writes the permanent record: the agent stops and a person decides. Put the approved wording in a text article in a knowledge base collection and attach it to the persona, so the agent answers from it. If you would rather answer yourself, add a needs attention rule for this kind of reply, and the conversation is flagged for a person.
