Template: confirming an unsubscribe or stop request

When someone asks you to stop, the reply should be one line: confirm they will not hear from you again, without arguing, pitching or asking why. Often the right reply is none at all, just the opt out recorded everywhere. Below are two short confirmations and the rule for when to send nothing.

The text

Placeholders in square brackets are yours to fill. The wording is ours, not a quote from a customer.
Version 1: a plain confirmation
Understood, [first name]. You will not hear from us again.
Version 2: with an apology
Sorry for the bother, [first name]. I have removed you, and you will not receive anything further from us.
Version 3: send nothing
[Record the opt out on every campaign and channel, and do not reply, when the person asked for no further contact of any kind.]

Why each line is there

Line by line
One lineAnything longer feels like one more message they did not want.
No reason askedAsking why reads as resistance.
No pitch, no linkA pitch in a confirmation can turn an opt out into a complaint.
EverywhereThe person asked your company to stop, not one mailbox.

What it measured

No data yet. Sellinger has not measured results for this exact text, so this page makes no claim about replies, meetings or revenue. Measured campaigns are in the case studies.

What Sellinger does: When a contact replies with an opt out such as STOP or unsubscribe, in English, Bulgarian or German among other forms, the contact goes on the team's suppression list, the agent stops and the lead is closed out. A weak or unclear phrase never writes the permanent record: the agent stops and a person decides.

When not to use it

  • When the request was unclear, such as not now. That is a timing reply, not an opt out, but treat it carefully.
  • When the person asked for no further contact of any kind; then send nothing.

How to use it in Sellinger

Before every send on email, LinkedIn and WhatsApp, the platform checks the team's suppression list and refuses the send when the contact is on it or when the check cannot be completed. Cold email can carry an unsubscribe line and the standard one click unsubscribe headers (List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post). It is a per mailbox setting.

Common questions

Should I reply to an unsubscribe request?
A one line confirmation is polite. If they asked for no contact at all, send nothing and record the opt out.
Does Sellinger stop automatically?
Yes, on a clear opt out reply such as stop or unsubscribe. For an unclear phrase the agent stops and a person decides.
Can I contact them on another channel?
No. The opt out applies to your company on every channel.
