What is a sales API?
A sales API is an interface that lets your own software talk to a sales platform: create leads, read their status and conversations, update records and receive events when something happens. It lets you connect a website form or a data pipeline without using the screen.

What do people use one for?
- Send a form lead from your website into the sales tool.
- Read replies and meetings into a reporting system.
- Update a lead when an order or a trial starts.
- Receive an event the moment a lead replies.
What should you check?
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How is a key issued and revoked? | A leaked key must be killable at once |
| Are there rate limits, and how are they reported? | Your sync must not break at volume |
| Are webhooks signed? | You must know an event came from the vendor |
| Is there a sandbox or a way to test? | You do not want to test on live leads |
API or MCP?
An API is for code. An MCP server is for AI assistants that decide what to call from a plain language request. They often sit on the same data.
How Sellinger handles it
A REST API with webhooks (from the Full Stack bundle up) and a hosted MCP connector with 43 tools for Claude and ChatGPT. API keys are stored only as SHA-256 hashes, can be revoked or set to expire, and carry per minute and per day limits. Webhooks carry an HMAC signature so you can verify each event.
Start with the quickstart, then read authentication and errors and limits. See also what an MCP server is.
