What is a gatekeeper in sales?
In sales, a gatekeeper is a person or system that stands between you and the decision maker: an assistant, a receptionist, an office manager, or a shared inbox such as info@. Their job is to protect someone's time. The respectful route is to make it easy for them to pass your message on, not to trick your way past them.

Who are the gatekeepers in outbound?
- Executive assistants who manage a leader's calendar and inbox.
- Office and operations managers in small companies.
- Shared inboxes such as info@ or sales@, read by whoever is on duty.
- Spam filters and email rules, which are gatekeepers too.
How do you work with a gatekeeper?
- Be clear about who you are and why you write. Gatekeepers spot vague messages quickly.
- Ask for help: who looks after this topic?
- Make your message easy to forward: short, specific and complete on its own.
- Thank them, and use their referral honestly when you write to the next person.
How Sellinger handles it
Searching named people by title over a database of 700M+ contacts avoids most shared inboxes. When a gatekeeper replies, the reply is in the conversation history and the agent can answer it; automatic replies from helpdesks, no reply senders, satisfaction surveys and empty messages are marked as machine mail. They never count as a human reply, the agent does not answer them, and the lead is sent to a person with a named reason.
