Claude vs an AI SDR: an assistant you direct against an agent that works the pipeline
Claude is a general assistant: you ask, it works with the apps you connect, and its own pages show sales examples such as call prep and CRM hygiene. An AI SDR such as Sellinger is a product built for one job: it finds buyers, writes to them on LinkedIn, email or WhatsApp, answers replies and books meetings. They are not rivals so much as layers, and Sellinger's hosted connector lets Claude work inside Sellinger.

What each one is, from its own pages
| Point | Claude | Sellinger, an AI SDR |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A collaborator you put to work on tasks, producing documents, spreadsheets and slides from files and tools you point it at | Sellinger is an AI SDR: it finds the right buyers, writes to each one on LinkedIn, email or WhatsApp, answers the replies and books the meetings |
| Who starts the work | You, with a request, or a scheduled task that reruns on a schedule you choose | The agent, from a campaign you set up, continuing without a request |
| Sales use named by the vendor | Call prep that pulls account history and open deals from Salesforce and Slack, and CRM hygiene that drafts opportunity updates shown before saving | The agent researches each prospect, writes the first message and every follow up, answers the replies and books the meeting on your calendar |
| Sending channels | None. Not a sending channel product: chat plus apps in Slack, Microsoft 365 and Chrome | LinkedIn, email, WhatsApp and Instagram replies, and live chat |
| Connectors | Connectors to apps you already use, and custom connectors and MCPs | A REST API with webhooks (from the Full Stack bundle up) and a hosted MCP connector with 43 tools for Claude and ChatGPT |
| Control before sending | A permission mode that shows its plan and waits for approval | A campaign can run in approval mode, where every message waits for a person to approve it, or send automatically. A person can take over any conversation, and the agent stops on its own when it cannot answer, for example a price it has no answer for |
| Price | Free $0. Pro $20 monthly or $17 annual. Max from $100. Team $25 monthly or $20 annual per standard seat | LinkedIn $198 per agent per month for 1 to 2 agents, $168 at 10 or more agents; Email from $39; bundles from $249 |
| Limits | Usage limits apply on every plan; Pro gives at least five times the Free usage per five hour session | Per account daily and weekly limits and quiet hours, so volume is paced rather than metered by tokens |

Where Claude is the stronger choice
- Work that is not outreach: call prep, account research, summaries, drafts and analysis across any app you connect.
- One off tasks and unusual requests. You describe the job, and no campaign or setup is needed.
- Writing and thinking support for the whole team at $20 per person, where an AI SDR serves one function.
- Custom connectors and your own MCPs, so it can reach internal tools that no sales product knows about.
- A free plan, so you can try it with no card.
Where an AI SDR is the stronger choice
- Anything that must keep running when no one is at the keyboard: invitations, follow ups and replies spread across days and weeks.
- Sending. An assistant drafts, and a sending product needs connected accounts, daily limits, quiet hours, opt out handling and a suppression check before every send.
- Answering replies in the same thread within minutes and booking the meeting on a calendar, with a person able to take over.
- Memory of every lead in one place: a built in CRM with contacts, deals and the full conversation across channels.
- LinkedIn's own help page on prohibited software, read 19 October 2026, says LinkedIn does not permit third party software that automates activity, and that using it can lead to restricted accounts.
The plumbing a prototype skips is listed in build vs buy an AI SDR.
Using both
Sellinger lists Claude and ChatGPT via MCP among its live integrations. Connect Claude to the hosted connector and ask it to pull replies, check a campaign or prepare a call from the conversation history, while the agent keeps working the pipeline. See the MCP page and the recipes.
Choose Claude alone if
- you need help with research, writing and analysis rather than a running outreach campaign,
- you send a handful of messages a week and write them yourself,
- you want one assistant for the whole team before you pick a sales tool.
Choose an AI SDR if
- you want outreach to run every day without a person starting it,
- you need replies answered and meetings booked in the thread,
- you want limits, opt outs and approvals handled by the product.
