LinkedIn automation vs an AI SDR agent: the dividing line is who answers the reply
A LinkedIn automation tool sends the invitations and messages you design and leaves replies to your team. An AI SDR agent also reads the replies, answers them and tries to book the meeting. Choose automation if you want to design and run every step yourself, and an agent if replies are where your time goes.

The dividing line
Both categories send connection requests and messages. The difference is autonomy after the reply. In an automation tool a reply stops the sequence and lands in an inbox for a person. In an agent, a reply starts a conversation the software conducts, within rules and approval settings you set. Several tools sit between the two, and vendors use the word agent loosely, so the table below records what each vendor lists on its own pages.
LinkedIn's own help page on prohibited software, read 19 October 2026, says LinkedIn does not permit third party software that automates activity, and that using it can lead to restricted accounts. That applies to both categories, so read it before choosing either.
What each vendor lists for replies
| Tool | Category | Reply handling as listed | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| HeyReach | Automation | A unified inbox for humans, reply sentiment tags, and a connector for an outside AI assistant to draft replies. No native agent that answers inbound replies on its own is listed | heyreach.io, read 19 October 2026 |
| Waalaxy | Automation, plus a separate beta | Waalaxy AI is a separate agent in early access that the page says replies end to end, with review before autopilot | waalaxy.com, read 19 October 2026 |
| Dripify | Automation | No AI reply handling listed. Replies are handled by hand in an inbox | dripify.com, read 19 October 2026 |
| Expandi | Automation | No native AI reply agent. A beta connector lets your own assistant draft replies for your approval | expandi.io, read 19 October 2026 |
| SalesRobot | Agent | An AI appointment setter in an inbox manager, with a co pilot mode and an autopilot mode | salesrobot.co, read 19 October 2026 |
| AiSDR | Agent | Autonomous reply handling on email and LinkedIn with a co pilot mode that keeps a human in the loop | aisdr.com, read 19 October 2026 |
| Sellinger | Agent | The agent researches each prospect, writes the first message and every follow up, answers the replies and books the meeting on your calendar. A campaign can run in approval mode, where every message waits for a person to approve it, or send automatically. A person can take over any conversation, and the agent stops on its own when it cannot answer, for example a price it has no answer for | Fact register, checked 19 October 2026 |
Not listed on a vendor's pages means we did not find it, not that it does not exist. Nothing here is scored.
Choose by what you want to control
Choose a LinkedIn automation tool if
- you want to design each step and write each message yourself,
- your team enjoys working the inbox and has the hours,
- you want the lowest per seat price for sending alone, since some automation plans list lower prices than an agent,
- you run many senders for an agency with its own process.
Choose an AI SDR agent such as Sellinger if
- replies arrive faster than your team can answer them,
- you want one conversation to continue across LinkedIn, email and WhatsApp,
- you want approval mode and a hand off rule when the agent cannot answer,
- you want results measured in conversations, not sent messages.
What an agent's replies looked like in our studies
In the foundry study 43% of replies came after a follow up and the agent answered in a median of 2.3 minutes. In the referral network study the agent turned 1,035 of 1,751 pleasantries into real conversations by asking a question. Both also show the limit: a person had to host the call and close.
