What are upselling and cross selling?
Upselling is selling a customer a higher plan or more of what they already buy, such as more seats. Cross selling is selling them a different, related product. Both grow revenue from existing customers, and both work when they solve a need the customer already has, at a moment when things are going well.

What is the difference, with examples?
| Upsell | Cross sell | |
|---|---|---|
| What | A bigger plan or more units | A related product |
| Example | From a starter plan to a team plan | Adding an email agent to a LinkedIn agent |
| Trigger | Usage close to a limit, new team members | A need the current product does not cover |
When does it work?
- After a success, such as a strong quarter or a smooth launch.
- When the customer is near a limit and the next step removes it.
- When a new team or use case appears.
- When the offer is optional and explained in the customer's terms.
What costs trust?
Pitching during a support problem. Upselling a customer who is not getting value from what they have. Hiding a price increase inside an upgrade. And repeating the offer after a clear no. The Upsell & Cross-sell persona waits at least 30 days after a no.
How Sellinger handles it
The customer success rule pack flags feature requests and expansion signals for the account owner, and the upsell persona frames every recommendation as optional. For Sellinger's own plans: cancel, upgrade or change modules at any time. There are no lock in contracts and no setup fees on self serve plans.
